CITY OF RIVERSIDE
Initial Pilot Program
Fiber Bridge Communications has been engaged to design, install and test a BPL network connecting two schools in the city of Riverside California. A brief narrative of the pilot site follows:
The pilot program will connect North High School at 1550 Third Street back to the main IS hub in Sierra Middle School located at 4950 Central Avenue. North High School is fed by a 12kV circuit from Hunter Substation and Sierra Middle School by a 4kV circuit from Mountain View Substation. There are two BPL installations, one at each end to completed the link. The link configuration will be as follows.
1. At Hunter Substation, inject BPL signal at the 12kV switchgear for Circuit 1229 that feeds North High School, approximately 1.8 miles away from the substation. The circuit comprises of 1.4 miles underground cable and 0.4 mile overhead line with laterals. There is a 1200kVAr 3-phase capacitor bank on the overhead section. The school is fed by a 3-phase 1500kVA 12kV/240-120V pad-mounted transformer.
2. At Hunter Substation, the data port of BPL injector will be connected to a fiber optic media converter. A dedicated pair of single mode fiber in the utility's present fiber optic system will be provided for connection to Mountain View Substation.
3. At Mountain View Substation, inject BPL signal at the 4kV switchgear for Circuit 65 that feeds Sierra Middle School, approximately 1.2 miles away from the substation. The circuit comprises of 0.8 mile underground cable and 0.4 mile overhead line with laterals. There is a 450kVAr 3-phase capacitor bank about 300 feet downstream of the circuit from the school. The school is fed by a 3-phase 750kVA 12kV/240-120V pad-mounted transformer.
4. At Mountain View Substation, the data port of BPL injector will be connected to a fiber optic media converter, same type as that provided for Hunter Substation. It will be connected to the dedicated single mode fibers coming from Hunter Substation.
.Attached are copies of their circuit maps in Adobe Acrobat format. One is for CIRCUIT_1229 and the other is for CIRCUIT_65 These are schematic diagrams of the circuits but they are also scale drawings. Measurements can be taken directly if you can print it out at full size, which is 22" X 34". This will give you distances, primary wire sizes, overhead (lines with dots in them) and underground (solid lines) line type designation, transformer locations and sizes, and school locations in red or pink.
The attached symbol plot file describes the symbols used. on the circuit maps in Adobe Acrobat format.
Also attached are satellite photos with street names and the respective grids superimposed on the images. One is the SAT_MAP_CIR1229 and the other is the SAT_MAP_CIR65.
